How To Decorate Bookshelves

Gold Bookshelf (Budget Friendly/Similar Version here & here), Rustic Wood Frames (similar here & here ), Pineapple (similar here), Faux Succulents, (similar here and here), Books (collected over the years), Bird Cage (similar), White Pitcher (similar here & here), Large Faux Plant (similar), Humans Of New York Book, Tufted Sofa, Gold Frame on Wall (similar)

Home decor has always been a passion of mine and after a ton of convincing from our friends and all of you I decided to finally show how I made our apartment a “home.” I figured doing it into sections might be easier and I can go into more detail so the first thing I wanted to cover is my take on “how to decorate bookshelves”. The style of my home is a Rustic Glam, or at least that’s what it closely resembles it. My color palette is a mixture of neutral shades such as light gray, soft beige, creamy whites and hint of sparkle such as the shelves and my night stands (will be showcased in a later post). Many of the pieces have been collected over the years and or were used as decor in our wedding which make them extra special to us.

I purchased 2 Gold Bookshelves (currently on sale) last year, one to go on each side of the Tufted Sofa, it still boggles my mind on how perfect they fit. I wanted to fill the space by adding depth and dimension without overcrowding or making it look cluttered. I used a layering method: leaning a larger picture frame agains the wall (top shelf)  with a stack of books next to it (books are personal novels I have read over the years), then adding an interesting piece of art, in my case I love this White Pineapple (on top shelf), I purchased last year, I have found similar white decorative objects Similar White Pineapple & White Elephant and White Vase. My white vase (also on top shelf) is from a succulent that I had previously purchased, I couldn’t keep it alive so I cleaned it out and reused the vase and I love how it looks on the stack of books. Our black and white photo from our wedding is another favorite that I framed in a Washed Wood Frame, found a few similar ones: Washed Wood Large Picture Frame and White Large Picture Frame.

On the second shelf I incorporated more greenery, I love plants and plants are hard to keep alive so I have incorporated some faux plants and they look great all year around, found 4 Mini Potted Faux Plants (budget friendly) and this Trailing Plant, and this Gold Pot Eucalyptus Plant. On the 2nd & 3rd Shelf I added Rustic Picture Frames, found similar ones Here, Here and Here. Fresh flowers are another favorite, whether it’s daisies, roses, carnations and even baby’s breath, I love using them throughout the apartment, especially on the coffee table and the bookshelves. Found similar White Pitchers Here & Here, also love these Terracotta Pitchers. Arnel had actually purchased the Open Barnwood Frame years ago and it’s probably one of my favorite pieces. I have linked similar versions Here & Here (under $15) & this one is almost identical Here.

Coffee Table books are so stylish and chic and make great decor pieces but they have become great conversation pieces as well, my guests love looking through as do I for inspiration. I have collected a ton over the years, including Humans of New York along with many others and use them throughout our apartment: next to our nightstands, on the coffee table, and on the bookshelves. I also adore this one and this one!

I have also made sure to include sentimental items such as the Gold Candles and The Bird Cage which were used on our wedding day and it’s so nice to see them on display now. I have found a similar Bird Cage Here and how neat is this Metal Scale, would make such a great decorative piece on a console. Love adding a plant or a basket next to my bookshelves, it not only adds character but fills the space by complimenting the furniture around it.

Don’t be afraid to play with different wood tones, textures and metals, it adds character and authenticity to a space. Hope you have enjoyed this little sneak peak of our home, let me know what else you want to see. (have included more shoppable images below with prices)
